About the Fellowships

The Centre for Global Studies supports interdisciplinary research on big global challenges. These include climate change governance, global inequalities, social and ecological justice and the legacies of authoritarianism.

The Centre welcomes qualified University of Victoria faculty members and graduate students whose work has an international or global side. Visiting graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and visiting researchers can also apply through the right category. Researchers from all subjects can apply if their work fits the Centre’s goals.

Priority Research Themes for 2027 to 2028

You can apply with a topic from any of the Centre’s research areas. But proposals that match one of three themes get preference.

Global Climate Change Governance

Research on international climate policy, global environmental cooperation, climate institutions and how governments respond to environmental challenges.

Structures of Global Inequalities

Research on the institutions, systems and relationships that create or keep inequality inside and between countries.

The Legacies of Authoritarianism

Research on the lasting political, social and cultural effects of authoritarian systems and what they mean for world affairs today.

You must clearly explain how your research connects to these themes. The Centre especially encourages work that brings scholarship and views from the Global South.
