Most research fellowships want a long list of papers and a strong academic record. This one does not. The AIxBio Research Fellowship 2027 is open to people who care about a very big problem and can think clearly about it. You do not need years of formal research to apply.
The problem is simple to say. AI is getting more powerful. Biotechnology is getting more powerful too. When the two meet there can be new biological risks. This fellowship brings smart people together to work on those risks.
The deadline is close. Applications close on 19 October 2026.

What This Fellowship Is
The AIxBio Research Fellowship is organized by ERA together with the Cambridge Biosecurity Hub. It takes place in Cambridge in the United Kingdom. It runs for 10 weeks from 18 January to 26 March 2027.
The program plans to pick about 15 fellows. That is a small group. So you will work closely with the other fellows and with your mentors.
The fellowship supports three kinds of people:
Researchers Professionals Entrepreneurs
All of them work in the space where artificial intelligence and biosecurity meet.
What You Actually Get
This is a fully funded fellowship. Here is what the program gives you:
A 10000 pound stipend for the full 10 weeks, travel costs to and from Cambridge, Visa sponsorship and help with your visa application for international fellows. Meals during working hours, help with moving and finding a place to stay. Expert mentorship. Dedicated research management support
That last point is worth noticing. Many fellowships give you money and then leave you alone. This one gives you real support to keep your project on track.
Who Can Apply
The rules are very open. You can apply if you:
Come from any country in the world Are at least 18 years old by the start date of the program Care about biological risks linked to AI and biotechnology Can join the full 10 weeks in person in Cambridge Show strong reasoning and critical thinking Can add value to useful projects
There are no other formal limits. You do not need past formal research experience. This makes the fellowship a rare chance for people who are new to research but have a strong mind for problems.
Note the key word in the rules. The program is full time and in person. You cannot join online. You cannot keep a full time job on the side. You must be ready to spend 10 weeks in Cambridge.
Why AI and Biosecurity Matter Right Now
AI tools can now help scientists design new medicines and read huge amounts of biological data. That is good news. But the same tools could also lower the barrier for someone who wants to cause harm with biology. Experts in this area worry about this risk.
AI biosecurity is still a young field. There are not many trained people working on it. That is one reason this fellowship exists. It tries to grow the number of skilled people who can find problems early and suggest real fixes.
If you join you could help shape how the world handles one of its biggest new risks.

The application is written. So your answers matter a lot. There is no long list of documents in the source. The main job is to show how you think.
How To Make Your Application Stronger
Here are some simple tips:
Be clear about why you care about AI and biosecurity. Show how you reason through a hard problem step by step. Give real examples from your own life or work. Keep your answers honest and direct. Explain what kind of project you would like to work on
Since the program does not ask for formal research experience, your thinking is your biggest strength. Show it well.
