What the Fellowship Is
Jane Street trades on global markets with a very technical approach. It uses machine learning, distributed systems, programmable hardware, statistics and applied mathematics. The company says its culture is full of games, puzzles and hard problems. Through this fellowship, it supports PhD students who share three values. These are technical excellence, intellectual curiosity and humility.
This fellowship is for PhD students only. It is not for faculty. Faculty members can contact the team if they want to nominate a student.

What You Must Send
A complete application has three parts.
- A CV or resume
- A short research statement. Explain your research or the direction you plan to take. Write it for a general reader who likes maths and technical ideas but may not be an expert in your field. Jane Street suggests 1 to 2 pages. Longer is fine if you truly need it. You can reuse a statement you already wrote in this style
- Contact details for your letter writers. After Jane Street receives your application it contacts your writers directly to collect their letters
How To Apply
- Check that your PhD field and your university meet the rules above.
- Tell your letter writers early that they will get an email from Jane Street.
- Update your CV.
- Write or revise your research statement for a general technical reader.
