The Four Host Universities
The selected fellow is placed at one of four partner institutions. Each operates differently. The fit between your research and a specific host matters more than geography alone.
Chulalongkorn University Bangkok Thailand
One of Thailand’s most prominent research universities with particular strengths in political science, governance and public policy. Fellows here are expected to deliver a public lecture, advance journal publications and engage with faculty and students in ways determined through consultation with the university.
Mahidol University, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand
Mahidol’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities offers an interdisciplinary environment. This placement includes a teaching component alongside research activities plus participation in public engagement work and faculty collaboration.
Universiti Sains Malaysia USM George Town, Penang, Malaysia
USM provides opportunities for interdisciplinary research and regional collaboration. Fellows may affiliate with the Research and Education for Peace unit REPUSM present findings through faculty seminars and explore collaborative publications with faculty members.
VinUniversity Hanoi Vietnam
A newer research focused institution with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary work. Fellows at VinUniversity can join active research teams, participate in projects connected to the Smart Green Transformation Center and develop collaborations aligned with their expertise.
Each placement has a different professional character. Researchers who prefer teaching exposure will find Mahidol the most relevant. Those focused purely on research output may lean toward Chulalongkorn or VinUniversity. USM suits researchers interested in peace and conflict studies or policy adjacent work.
What the Fellowship Covers
The funding package is comprehensive for a regional postdoctoral program.
Fellows receive:

The workshop presentation takes place between May and July 2027 before the fellowship officially begins on 1 July. Factor that into travel and preparation timelines from the start.
The Requirement Most Applicants Will Miss
- Before you submit the application, you must get a letter of support from a mentor at your chosen host institution.
- This letter is required, not just an extra document.
- It shows that the host institution supports your research and that you have a proper working connection with the mentor.
- You should contact suitable faculty members as early as possible.
- Introduce your research and explain how it matches their work.
- Discuss what you plan to do during the fellowship and your responsibilities.
- Then ask the mentor for the required formal support letter.
- All of this should be completed before 1 November.
- If you have not contacted anyone yet, two months can still be enough if you start now.
- However, waiting until late October could make it very difficult.

Working backwards to submit a strong application by 1 November the letter of support needs to be secured by mid October at the latest. Faculty conversations at host institutions should ideally begin in August or September as soon as the call is officially released. Waiting until the portal opens to start those conversations leaves very little room for the back and forth that a genuine letter of support requires.
