Most fellowships ask you to send your own application. This one does not. The World Bank Government Analytics Fellowship 2027 only accepts people who are nominated by their own organization. That one rule decides who can apply and who cannot.
If you work in government and want to use data to run your office better this guide is for you. It explains what the fellowship is and who qualifies. It also shows what to do first.

What This Fellowship Is
The Government Analytics Fellowship is run by the World Bank. It trains government officials to use data in smart ways. Governments collect a lot of administrative data every day. This includes records and surveys. But many offices never use this data well. The fellowship teaches people how to turn it into useful facts for better decisions.
Fellows learn from experts who helped write the Government Analytics Handbook. They also build a real project that solves a problem in their own institution. They meet public servants academics and data experts from around the world.
This is why the program is called a data driven public administration fellowship. The goal is simple. Better data use means better public services.
Three Ways To Join
The fellowship has three tracks. You can pick the one that fits you.
Online Track
This is a self-paced online course. You learn on your own time.
Immersive In-Person Track
This is a strong and competitive six-month program. You build a project and also join about two weeks of training in Washington D.C. in March 2027.
Regional Hub Track
This track is organized around regional hubs. It offers local fellowship chances closer to home.
What the World Bank Pays For
If you are picked for the in-person track and your country is on the ODA eligible countries list, the World Bank pays for:
- Your travel costs
- Your hotel stay
- Daily living costs during the Washington D.C. course
ODA means official development assistance. It is a list of countries that qualify for this kind of support. Check if your country is on the list before you plan anything.
Each fellow also receives dedicated mentoring from a World Bank expert linked to their project.
Who Can Apply
The rules are strict. You must meet every one of these:
- Your organization must nominate you
- Each organization can nominate only two fellows
- You must work for a central government organization or government agency
- You must hold a mid level management job or a senior analyst job or a similar level role
- You must have the support and the power to start a government analytics project at your office
- You must have studied statistics or a similar quantitative subject at college or university level
- You must show strong English skills
Look closely at the second and fourth points. Local government jobs do not seem to count. Also you need real authority at work. A junior staff member with a great idea but no power to act is not a good fit.
What You Must Prepare
Get these three documents ready. All must be in English and in PDF format.
- CV Maximum three pages
- Project Summary A short description of your government analytics project. It must be only 150 words. Keep it clear and focused
- Organizational Endorsement Letter This is a letter from your organization. It nominates you and confirms your job. It also shows that your office supports both the fellowship and your project
The third document is the most important one. It cannot be written by you. You must ask a senior person at your organization to prepare it. Start this step early because busy leaders often take time to respond.
