Technology shapes democracy, rights and everyday life — yet many voices and regions stay missing from the conversation. The Tech Policy Press Fellowship gives experienced professionals a structured year to change that.
The 2027 cohort offers a $10,000 stipend, editorial guidance, an international peer network and regular publication opportunities. Since launching in 2023 the program has backed 25 fellows from 11 countries.

Applicants need demonstrated interest or background in technology policy, media or a related field. Strong expertise in a specific tech-policy issue, geography or broader area linking technology to democracy and society is essential.
International applicants are welcome and encouraged. No U.S. work authorization is required. All fellows work remotely as independent contractors.
Tech Policy Press especially encourages applications from the Global Majority and communities underrepresented in media. Projects that center regions and communities often left out of global tech-policy discussions receive particular interest.

Fellows do not have to stay locked to one narrow topic. They are encouraged to respond to relevant news developments that connect to their expertise.
Fellowship Responsibilities
Selected fellows commit to:
- Produce reporting or analysis at least once a month (initially exclusive to Tech Policy Press; later republication allowed)
- Attend a mandatory one-hour monthly cohort meeting
- Attend monthly editorial check-ins to review progress and plan next steps
- Collaborate with other fellows and the Tech Policy Press team when appropriate
- Meet all agreed deadlines
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest

Explain what you hope to accomplish, the issue you want to explore, why it matters, why you are well placed to cover it, and how the work will contribute to public understanding and decision-making.

Publication samples
- Must be publicly accessible online and clearly attributed to you
- Acceptable formats: reported articles, policy or issue analyses, opinion pieces, essays, podcasts, newsletters, data projects
- Social media posts and unpublished material (class assignments, dissertations) do not count
- Prefer work from the past three years
- Co-authored pieces are allowed, but at least one solo publication is recommended
- Translated work is fine if you also submit at least one piece written in English and can show command of English
- Paywalled articles must be made open-access for review

Notification of results is expected by early December 2026. A shortlist may be invited for an online interview. The fellowship begins in January 2027 and runs for 12 months.
